Information about Florida state parks in and near
the city of Miami Florida.
Barnacle Historic State Park
This state park is focused around the historic
home of early Coconut Grove settler
Ralph Middleton Monroe. The home is called
"The Barnacle", it was built in 1891, and it
is now a museum open to the public. It is one
of the oldest homes in Miami and it sill sits
on its original foundation. The park includes
five acres of landscaped grounds. Concerts and
other special events are sometimes held here.
Located at 3485 Main Highway in Coconut Grove.
Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park
Main attractions at this state park
are the one mile sandy beach and touring
an historic lighthouse that was built in 1846.
Visitors can climb 109 steps to the top of the
lighthosue for views ofthe beach, the city of Miami,
and Biscayne Bay. Guided lighthouse tours
are offered twice a day and visitors can also
view a short film. The Boater's Grill Restaurant
is nearby, overlooking No Name Harbor.
Located on Key Biscayne Island. From Miami
take the I-95 highway to the Rickenbacker Causeway
and drive all the way to the end.
Oleta River State Park
Recreational activities in this park on Biscayne Bay
near the city of Miami. hiking trails, kayaking,
canoeing, mountain biking, camping, air conditioned
cabins, swimming, and fishing. Attractions
in the park include a 1200 foot sandy beach
and butterfly garden. Locatde at 3400 Northeast
163rd street off of I-95 in North Miami.
