An introduction to the City of West Miami in South Florida.
The city of West Miami was incorporated in 1947 by
four businessmen when Miami-Dade County decided to
ban gambling estabishments and shorten the hours
for legally serving alcoholic drinks. At the time,
the city had only 700 residents.
After World War II the government was giving away land in
this area as an incentive for people to settle there.
Today there are about 6000 residents and approximately
85% of them are hispanic.
West Miami is located betwen Calle Ocho and Coral Way.
Neighboring cities including Coral Gables, Hialeah,
and Miami Lakes.
