Geography of Miami Florida

Information about the geography of Maimi Florida.

Miami is on a plain situated between the Everglades to the west and Biscayne Bay to the east.

Elevation never rises above 15 feet above sea level and it averages about 3 feet above sea level, especially near the coast.

Most of the city is on the shore of Biscayne Bay, which has hundreds of natural and man-made barrier islands. The city of Miami Beach and that city's South Beach district are on the largest of those islands.

The warm Gulf Stream Current runs northward about 15 miles off the coast of Miami which keeps the climate warm all year.
