Sports Venues in Miami
Information about stadiums, arenas, and other sports venues
in Miami Florida. Includes the American Airlines Arena, Dolphin
Stadium, Tropical Park Stadium, and the BankAtlantic
Center.
American Airlines Arena
This arena on Biscayne Bay in downtown Miami
is used for Miami HEAT Basketball home games
and many other concerts and events. It was built
to replace the Miami Arena and it opened for
the first time on December 31, 1999. The first
event held there was a Gloria Estefan concert.
Note that Gloria is the owner of the "Bongos"
Cuban restaurant located inside the stadium.
Dolphins Stadium
This sports stadium in Opa-Locka Florida is
use for football, baseball, soccer, and lacross.
It is most well-known as the venue for the home
games of the Miami Dolphins NBA American football team
and the Florida Marlins MLB baseball team
Before it was called Dolphin Stadium it
was known at different times as
Joe Robbie Stadium, Pro Player Park, and Pro Player Stadium.
BankAtlantic Center
This indoor stadium is located in Sunrise Florida,
a suburban town north of Miami and west of
Fort Lauderdale. It was built in 1998 and it
is used as a venue for ice hockey, basketball,
boxing, wrestling, concerts, and other events.
It is the venue for the home pages of the
Florida Panthers NHL ice hockey team.
Tropical Park Stadium
This 7000 seat stadium is the venue
for the home games of the Miami FC professional
soccer team and it is also used for
track and field, equestrian, tennis,
rugby, American football, and boxing events.
The stadium was built in 1979 on the site of a
former horse racing track. In addition to
being a venue for spectator sports
the park has sports facilities, paved bicycle
trails and a fishing lake that are open to the public.
