Gardens in Miami
Information about public and private botanical
gardens located in and near the city of Miami
in South Florida.
Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden
This 83 acre botanical garden om Cpra; Gables
features a large collection of rare tropical plants.
The gardens were establishe in 1983 by
David Fairchild and plant collector Robert H. Montgomery.
Dr. Fairchild collected plants on his travels
around the world and he transplanted many of them
in this Maimi garden.
Fruit and Spice Park Botanical Garden
This Miami-Dade County Park features more then
500 varieties of fruit, nut, and spice trees including
especially large collections of banana, mango, grape, bamboo
varieties. The park is 32 acres in size and it was founded
in the 1950's on a site that was a citrus orchard
until a 1926 hurricane destroyed it. Hurricane Andrew
caused serious damage to the current park in 1992.
The Kampong
This Coconut Grove botanical garden has
ben designated by the United States as
a National Tropical Botanical Garden.
Miami Beach Botanical Garden
Features a Japanese garden,
a bromelaid collection, a small orchid collection,
and many varieties of palms and other exotic plants.
Located at 2000 Convention Center Drive next
to the Miami Beach Convention Center.
Vizcaya Villa and Gardens
This Italian Renaissance and Baroque mansion
and its 10 acres of surrounding gardens have been
designated by the United States
as a National Historic Landmark. Located at
3251 South Miami Avenue in coconut Grove.
