The Coral Gables Congregational Church was built in 1923 on land donated by Coral Gables founder George E. Merrick, who also built the Biltmore Hotel across the street from the church. The church building was designed by Chicago architects Kiehnel and Elliot in a Spanish revival style. Construction began in November of 1923 the building was completed and dedicated on April 5, 1925. The building was the first church and the first public building in the city of Coral Gables.

In the early 1950's a fellowship hall and Sunday school building were added to the church and in the early 1960's the Moye Chapel and administrative wings were added.

The United States Department of the Interior added the Coral Gables Congregational Church to the National Register of Historic Places on October 10, 1978.
